In 9th grade, I took a Journalism class that ignited my passion for the subject. My high school paper was written only by students in that class, and after finishing the course I knew for sure that I wanted to keep writing. York Daily Record's Teen Takeover Program allowed me to be in a newsroom, discuss stories with other high schoolers who were passionate about writing, and work with professional journalists. Although I only wrote a few pieces before the program was discontinued, I wanted to include them in my portfolio since it was my first step into professional writing.
Both of these pieces can be found on the York Daily Record website. Out of respect for their paywall and website traffic, I'll link them below instead of posting the whole story here.
