Shakespearean Sonnet

Inspired by the style, language, and structure of William Shakespeare's sonnets. Written as part of a Works of Shakespeare class, as an attempt to mimic the style of his poetry.

Lovers Left Long Ago

Reflecting back towards an unpleasant end,

On something closed off time and times ago.

It closed forever; never to rescind.

The possibility, never to know.

Once lovers, now unlov’d, find separate paths,

The fork leads farther than the map once read.

Hopes of uniting in the aftermaths,

Existed once but long since have been dead.

No love between them still remains today,

But curiosity for what could be,

Festers uninvited in the decay.

Not love of love but hate of misery.

Determination urges them both on,

For love of more, or hate for love unwon.
